According to news reports, a 2012 Buick Regal was heading north on I-55, just past Bluff Road about 1:00 a.m.  The passenger car struck the rear of a tractor-trailer that was heading in the same direction.

The passenger car overturned across the left lane into the center median, ejecting both the driver and passenger, the police reported. Tragically, neither young people were wearing seat belts.

The driver, Tyler Fox, and the passenger, Darcy Chobar of Shorewood, were both pronounced dead at the scene by the Will County coroner’s office, according to information provided by the police.

The truck driver, Carlos Ward of Robbins, Illinois, was not injured in the collision.  The Illinois State Police report that while the truck crash is still under investigation, Ward was not cited for any traffic or equipment violations following the crash.

The death of two young people in such a sudden, violent and tragic way is truly heartbreaking. The promise their lives held can only be imagined. How deeply saddened must the parents, families and friends of this young man and woman must be. My thoughts and prayers go out to them.
