AAJ to Document Need for More Commercial Truck Insurance
The American Association for Justice, through its Interstate Trucking Litigation Group, is calling on plaintiffs attorneys from across the USA to assist in documenting damages in their respective truck accident cases.
More Commercial Truck Insurance Is Needed
As a truck accident lawyer, I work with clients who have suffered serious injuries, and the family members of those who have been killed by negligent truck drivers and trucking companies. That experience has given me first hand insight to the true financial cost of truck accidents where the truck driver or trucking company was at fault for the crash.
Currently, federal guidelines require a minimum of $750,000 of commercial truck insurance for the big trucks on the road. The minimum was set more than 30 years ago -- and has not been raised since. It has not even allowed for inflation. So, while the costs of medical care, vehicle repair and practically everything else has risen over time, truck drivers are not required to increase their commercial truck insurance coverage in keeping with those rising costs.
As I've written previously, there are studies that clearly illustrate that the current federal minimum levels of commercial truck insurance is drastically low. The Trucking Alliance released a report in June 2013 that highlighted how 42% of all truck crash settlements in the US exceeded the federal government’s minimum commercial truck insurance requirements.
The AAJ is Asking for Help to Document True Cost of Damages
As a member of the Interstate Trucking Litigation Group of the American Association for Justice, I am pleased to share the news that the AAJ is leading the charge to better document the true cost of damages in truck accident cases. By documenting the real cost of truck accidents, the AAJ can further the argument that the federal minimums for commercial truck insurance need to be increased.
